Parkour vs Freerunning

Hey everyone, all traceurs have know about the huge controversy that come between parkour and freerunning. And as for purpose both are basically the same! But just for clarification I want to give the straight up definition for both.

Parkour- Parkour (sometimes abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (English: the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls — and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas.

Freerunning- Free running is a physical art, in which participants (free runners) use the urban and rural areas to performance movements through its structures focused on freedom and beauty. It incorporates efficient movements from parkour, adds aesthetic vaults and other acrobatics, such as tricking and street stunts, creating an athletic and aesthetically pleasing way of moving. It is commonly practiced at gymnasiums and in urban areas that are cluttered with obstacles.

So to sum it up in easy terms...parkour is mostly about efficiency and freerunning is more about the freedom of movement and making it look pleasing to the eye.

Now I want to hear from you guys! Tell me which you practice, why, and what you think the major difference is!

Until next time,
KC

Hey Traceurs!

It's been a while, and I'm in need of giving you guys an update! I successfully did my first full picnic table Kong Vault today! I could already do a Kong over the table short wise. It was very scary to attempt but I just let go of all my fear and just went for it! My very first attempt was kind of sloppy but it was still a success. I ended up probably doing like 15 to 20 of them. Haha, they're addictive! Now when I do a Kong Vault over a picnic table the short way, it honestly feels kinda wimpy. ;] I am so happy I can finally do this, I encourage anybody who wants to learn the full table Kong to go for it. It feels VERY rewarding afterwards. =] OK, well I'll have another update sometime soon. Here's a video below.

Jungle Gym Getaway

Hey traceurs!
I went down to my local jungle gym today to just sort of mess around. And I got a camera yesterday btw. so I'll be sure to add pictures in most of my entries from now on =]. OK so onto the "getaway". Due to the relatively small size of the gym, it was difficult to find anything really good to practice there. I had to really get into my artistic side of my parkour in order to get anything outta it ;]. But I did manage to spot an unlikely picnic table and shift it into a good position for Kong Vaults. I tried to do about 10 just to really work on my technique. I have really been wanting to work on my underbar. So I went to a pull up bar at the Jungle Gym and tried a few. Eh it was a so-so attempt! [I have yet to accomplish a successful one in between two bars. any tips would be greatly appreciated ;] ]. I think it is because I just psych myself out too much because I am afraid I'll hit my head. However, a good day of PK in AZ!

Here's a really cool picture that I found on the web!

It seems like a Kong to precision. What do you think?

Training Day: Vaults

First of all, Happy Easter! OK so on with my vault training day...
I eased onto the brakes of my Jeep Wrangler, glancing around. 'This place looks pretty good'. From what I could manage to see was some low walls, volleyball and basketball courts, couple of baseball fields, and some jungle gyms with many, many picnic tables! I made a sharp right headed to the parking lot. I found a nice shady spot so my Jeep doesn't get too overwhelmingly hot! [its a soft top] I climbed out and examined the area. 'I think I'll do some vaults'. I began with the basic speed vault. The first one clipping my foot I was determined to fix that. I continued to do about 5 more until I was no longer clipping my foot. 'That's better, now onto some Lazy Vaults'. I then began to do Lazies back and forth over long about waist high wall in front of me. These came much easier to me it seemed. Feeling confident I did the a speed vault over the wall and Lazied my way down to the end of the wall.

Getting thirsty, I spotted a drinking fountain in the midst of a children's party by a red jungle gym. 'Now that's a relief'! I then started my way over doing a Kong Vault over a wall between the volleyball court and the water fountain.

With my energy starting to regain, I started up on my vaults again. Slowly I moved up the wall. [it was on a slope so the wall gradually got taller, very good for training] Trying to keep a consistent tempo I kept going up the wall. I got a little over waist high and took a break. While walking around I saw I nicely sized wall about eight feet tall. 'I can scale that'. I got about 12 feet away and started towards it. Feeling confident in my mind I went up the wall with ease. Sitting on top of it I felt very accomplished for what I have done today.

I jumped down and landed then went over to the picnic tables. I looked at my landing area and then sprinted full force for the table. I then leaped over it, grasping the opposite end with my hands and with my legs in the air, I touched the opposite end and started to bring my legs down. Successfully doing the Kong Vault really got me pumped. I then finished about 4 more and began a light jog. I jogged around a baseball field and back to my Jeep.

I dug into my pocket and grabbed my keys and put them in the ignition. I drove away satisfied knowing that I had found a spot perfect for vaults!

Another Video Blog, Movie Style!

Hey guys! Here's an insane video shot cinematic style featuring David Belle, the inventor of parkour. It's freakin' awesome how that David can just outrun all those guys. I still don't get how he can think of what to do and how to do it so fast!? Mind boggling... But I guess that's why it's called Hollywood! Haha, or...French Hollywood?? Hmm...

Ya i thought it was kinda weird but I watched it. It is so intense they way that can move through their environment so quickly! Sweet stuff right here! True inspiration.

Hey Traceurs!

Just started this blog and I hope it's a success! I live and parkour/freerun in Arizona. I have only been doing this for a few months but plan to do it for all my life. I am looking to provide this site for people who want to learn the basics, as well as watch cool parkour videos and pictures. I'll try to update this as much as possible!

Thanks!
